How did you enjoy your stay in Bratislava and Slovakia?
I was happy to visit Bratislava as it is a marvelous old city! It was pleasant to walk along its streets, meet its citizens… Luckily, I had plenty of free time to go sightseeing. And moreover, I felt that Ukrainian & Slovak people have much in common, we even spoke our native languages each & still understood one another without any difficulties. It was unforgettable!
What did you think of the conference? (your personal evaluation)
Well, I have experience of participation in international conferences like this, but this one was really a great event. The organization, technical support & the program were impressive. They managed to create a wide-scale international team-building of HR professionals. Good job done!
What perception of Slovak HR professionals did you get?
Oh, this is the most interesting thing. Actually, as I had never been to Slovakia or shared HR expertise with Slovak HRs, I was really curious of how the things were going on in the HRM sphere in your country. And was surprised to learn that in reality we’re facing the same problems, using almost the same tools in the in-house employees’ management. Obviously, this was the base for fruitful sharing of expertise.
What do you see as the biggest difference (in reality, challenges etc) between Ukrainian HRM and Slovakian HRM? (now after you learnt about our reality?)
I think, Slovak HRs can more actively & easily implement modern HR initiatives, as entering the EU has wiped out the borders between European countries thus shifting people’s mentality, approach in management, etc. to a more progressive & flexible way. In Ukraine the remains of soviet-like way of thinking are still wide-spread, and work over enhancement of internal motivation, involvement & responsibility of employees turns out to be a real difficulty.
One thing you took away from the conference and meeting Slovak HR professionals?
Just as I mentioned, Slovak & Ukrainian HRs have many challenges in common, including demographic problems, those of motivation & succession planning. All of us, HR managers, are involved in the endless “How to attract?” & “How to develop?” professional race with candidates & employees, being at the same time the buffer between company staff and management... To my mind, main HR realities are the same both in Slovakia & Ukraine. Of course there are specific national features, but not more.
What are you going to work on now, till the end of this year?
The main HR project for the nearest future is tuning & improvement of our installed talent management program. Despite of all recent changes in national economy, employees’ retention is the task number one for our HR department.
